Chamber Thank You
Last Saturday was a wonderful day for community and visitors; there were fun and informative activities in many locations. Hundreds of people enjoyed the chamber of commerce events -- the 4th Annual Bethel Area Business & Home Expo, the Taste of Bethel, and the Theme Wreath Auction at Telstar High School. Many thanks to the Expo committee of Colleen Files, Lloyd Sweetser, Amy Marshall, Lynn Saxton, and Jim Bennett.
A huge thanks to our Expo sponsors: Presenting Sponsor, Norway Savings Bank; Major Sponsor, Agren Appliance and Television; Supporting Sponsors, Northeast Bank, United Insurance, and Turner Publishing; basic sponsors, Western Maine Supply and W. J. Wheeler Insurance. We are grateful to Cross Excavation for donating a cord of wood as the biggest raffle prize. Thanks also to Gould Academy for the use of tables and chairs and Bethel Shop N Save for donating cases of water. A belated note of appreciation to Mallard Mart for donating coffee for the Wares Fair on Nov. 26.
The 41 vendors, plus four Telstar High School and Middle School groups, did a fantastic job interacting with the show visitors and promoting their products and services. Sheriff Wayne Gallant was our judge. Congratulations to Xanna's Spa for best exhibit, second place, Mahoosuc Kids. Best student exhibit was FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). Stacey Wheeler won the cord of wood.
The following eight restaurants generously donated their tastes and time: Crosstone Restaurant at the Mollyockett Motel, Good Food Store, Jolly Drayman Pub at the Briar Lea Inn, Loose Boots Lounge at Mt. Abram Resort, Rooster’s Roadhouse, Smokin’ Good BBQ, The Sudbury Inn, and the Sunday River Brewing Company. Thanks to W.J. Wheeler Insurance for their continued sponsorship. We trust the word goes out about these wonderful restaurants.
Beautiful wreaths were donated, themed to the business and most including gift certificates, by the following: Austin’s Holidae House B&B, Barking Dawg, Bennett Automotive, Bethel Bicycle, The Bethel Citizen, The Bethel Inn Resort, BIG Adventure Center, Carol Savage Photography, Funky Red Barn, Mahoosuc Kids Association, Maine Made Furniture, Mt. Mann Jewelers, Northeast Bank, Norway Savings Bank, Pat’s Pizza, Pooh Corner Farm, River View Resort, Rooster’s Roadhouse, and Viewer's Choice Video of Bethel. Many thanks to all!
Sponsors and volunteers what would we do without them? First and foremost, many thanks to Dave Freiday, without whose continual aid we would be up a creek! Also to the following volunteers (in addition to the committee members above): Ellie Andrews, Laurence and Marcia Austin, Nancy Babcock, Gary Coyne, Al Cressy, Ellen Crocker, Ivory Currier, Chris Delamater, Read Dickinson, John and Carol Emery, Arlynn Hale, Dan Hart, Fran Head, John Holliday, Matty Leach, Blake MacKay, Kevin Marshall, Charlie Raymond, Joyce Roma, Kevin Rosenberg, Carol Savage, Joel Speakman, Al Sumner, and Telstar student, Ethan Phelps.
Holiday gift-giving season is here. The Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce reminds you to shop locally. All the businesses which supported this weekend of events support countless community causes. In fact, many have donated to our Holiday Online Auction, going on Dec. 5-15. (See tinyurl.com/holidayauction. Register and bid!) Please consider this when making your purchasing decisions this holiday season and all year long.
