Joseph F. Lyons, 83, of Quincy, Mass., passed away Dec. 19, 2010. He was the devoted husband of 57 years to Rosemary (McMenamin) Lyons.
Born in Boston, Mass., Nov. 5, 1927, Joe was the 10th of 11 children born to the late William and Elizabeth (Meany) Lyons, and served his country during WWII and Korea in the U.S. Navy, where he was a proud member of the SeaBees. Following his time in the service, he worked for many years as a Pipefitter with the Boston Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1973. He later worked in the maintenance department at N.E. Deaconess Hospital, and at the former Shuster Laboratories in Quincy before finally retiring in 2002. While he enjoyed his work and the people he worked with, his happiest times were those spent with his loving family.
In addition to his beloved wife Rosemary, he is survived by his adult children; Maureen E. Lyons of Quincy, Rita M. Calio and husband Vincent of Foxboro, Joseph W. Lyons of Albany, Maine, and Daniel T. Lyons of Quincy. Dear brother of Ruth T. and Rita A. Lyons, both of Quincy. Cherished grandfather of William, Michael, Caitlyn and Elizabeth Lyons, and Christopher Calio, and great-grandfather of Bailey and William Lyons. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends, including Deanna Lyons of Carver and Susan Peguero of Quincy. He was the brother of the late Mary DeLorey, Elizabeth Webster, Helen Ciardi and William, John, Edward, Richard and Leonard Lyons.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 22, from the Hamel, Wickens & Troupe Funeral Home, 26 Adams Street, Quincy Center, Mass., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy, Mass. Interment with military honors followed at Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
