HAROLD F. CLUKEY JR.
Harold F. Clukey Jr., 82, of Bryant Pond, Maine, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 14, 2010 at the V.A. Hospital in Augusta, Maine.
He was born in Dexter, Maine, on Dec. 10, 1928. He was the son of Harold F. Clukey Sr. and Doris Clukey and grew up in Dexter with his five older siblings: Rolla, Quinny, Cyril, Joseph, and sister JoAnne.
Harold was known for his love and knowledge of airplanes; he began flying them at the age of 10 and chartered himself out at a young age flying beaver trappers across the northern Maine area. He then went on to fly for the Army and was a fighter/bomber pilot in the Korean war.
After retiring as a Major, Harold studied medicine and graduated from college in Hampden, Mass., in 1959. The same year he married his loving wife, Violette Carey of Waterville. They decided to move home to Maine and raise a family. He started Clukey's Pharmacy on Main Street, Bethel, and they had four children: Roland, John, David, and daughter Terry. Harold taught them all to fly.
He was known for spending time at his hangar at the Bethel Airport working on his plane, greeting strangers, giving rides and just enjoying the action! He also enjoyed spending time with his seven grandchildren and will always be remembered for helping anyone who needed it and his great sense of humor.
