Who is Liable?
I read in the last week Bethel Citizen about the excitement of raising the pipes with a crane to build the "Bethel Ice Tower." They portrayed it as dangerous at times. I wonder about these winter projects up in the air to promote tourism. In the years past, when volunteers built the snowman and woman, I wondered then what would happen if something went wrong.
The Bethel town administration has been non-supportive of volunteers on different projects because of the liability to the town and I agree. I assume the Chamber of Commerce is first in line to be sued for an accident; however, I read that their resources are limited. I am sure an attorney representing an injured spectator or volunteer would go after the Town of Bethel as it's perceived as a town project.
If the Ice Tower is built and it brings climbers and risk takers to it, who is going to get waivers signed to address any injuries that might occur? Just wondering
