Kaylynn Worcester turned 10 years old on Jan. 13. A birthday celebration recently took place at her grandparents’ house in Hanover. Her dad, Brian Worcester, and his wife, Sara, hosted the event. Among those attending were Donna and Clem Worcester, Lisa Thebarge, Frank and Bonnie Bulger, Gail Worcester, Hunter and Nicole Bernard. Everyone enjoyed pizza, cake and ice cream before some went sliding.
Most of the winter FairPoint workers have been working on poles in the area and spending a lot of time at the hook-up station on the Howard Pond Road. The work is nearly completed and fiber optic technology is now available to area residents. Although this technology has been available in nearby communities this is the first it has been available on local telephone lines. Anyone interested in using the fiber optic technology for high speed Internet should contact FairPoint if they have not already contacted you.
Plowed snow at the intersection of the Howard Pond Road and Main Street (Route 2) has created a visibility problem for traffic entering Main Street. Traffic approaching from the west cannot be seen without actually entering the intersection. Sight distance is much improved by those who bypass the area by using Mill Hill Road for left or right turns onto Main Street.
How does that old saying go? “When the days get longer the winter winds get stronger.” Something like that seems to happen most winters. Recent morning lows have been in the zero range and often 10 degrees or more below zero. The highs seldom reached 20 degrees during the day. We had some beautifully clear, sunny days and despite the cold some got out to snowshoe or cross-country ski. The snowstorm last Tuesday (Jan. 13) left about eight inches in this area. Schools and many businesses were closed for the day.
It is not too early to get out the seed and plant catalogs and begin planning for your spring garden. Get some paper and draw out how you want to design the garden. Then sit by your nice hot wood stove with a cup of tea and a piece of pie and dream about eating those garden fresh vegetables and fruits.
