The weatherman was finally right when he said that the beginning of the week was going to be some of the coldest weather so far.
My brother, Steve McLain, said that when he looked at the thermometer Sunday morning it was zero.
Our granddaughter, Sidney Chapman, spent last Saturday night at our house. She is such a great house guest. We worked on some craft items, read a new book and watched her new movie.
Steve and Lise McLain went to the retirement gathering last Sunday for Robert Hutchins and Evelyn Morin. It was held at Crescent Park School and was very well attended. They both worked for SAD 44 for many years. Lise McLain went to Ledgeview to visit her father, Gerard Dupont.
Our grandson, Benjamin Chapman, will be celebrating his 19th birthday on Jan. 29. Other January birthdays are Stephen McLain III on the 27th and Joe McLain on the 30th, who are the sons of Steve and Lise McLain.
Last call for dog licenses. Contact the Town Clerk at the Town Office, 836-2115. Late fees are applied after Jan. 31.
Gilead Historical Society
Hugh and I stopped by the Bethel Historical Society last week and visited with Danna Nickerson, Randy Bennett and Stanley Howe. We dropped off a Gilead Historical Society newsletter for Danna, since the one she got in the mail was missing some pages.
It was nice to get a phone call from Joanne "Peabody" Stewart of Portland. We had not heard from her and her husband, Bob, for a while. She was inquiring about the quilt squares that are being sold by the Gilead Historical Society.
Bob and Judy Bishop also called. Bob had a few things to discuss about finances for the GHS and Judy had some ideas for some more quilt squares. Perry and Happy Chapman from Waterford also called to catch up and inquire about the squares.
We have recently received orders for quilt squares all the way from Oregon and Florida! Thanks to Diane Bean in Oregon and Mike Stowell in Florida.
We also talked to Howard Reiche about a project for the GHS and Norm Buttrick on another project. Things are still busy behind the scenes for the GHS.
