RE: Asphalt Plant:
I am a Bethel native and have recently purchased a home, in town, to enjoy the beauty and outdoor activities Bethel and surrounding areas have to offer to our family. I am not a legal resident, so this is my only voice.
One day in the fall as I was driving through the Steam Mill, into town, I thought my car was overheating. When I got to the house, I realized it wasn’t my car but an eye-watering odor hanging over the town. I did not know at the time about the plant, asked several friends and they said it was the “new plant” on the other side of the river. I grew up near the river and remember the smell from the mills, fear of toxins, the Androscoggin not fit to even sit near and the debates about "cancer valley." Do we really want this beautiful town to go backward in time? Our children have an amazing playground here; I hope that someone can ensure that it stays this way for years to come.
