I am very concerned about the possibility of modifying shoreland zoning regulations. I live in Greenwood, Maine, a small town with a number of ponds. The quality and beauty of our lakes is our tax base -- 80 percent of the property taxes are paid by people who own seasonal homes on these ponds.
We work very hard to maintain the water quality in these ponds as well as support and educate people about shoreland regulations. These help keep the ponds healthy as well as beautiful. That is critically important to our local tax base.
On a state level, our lakes, ponds, rivers are part of Maine's great appeal as a tourist and resort economy. We cannot do anything to jeopardize that.
Please uphold our existing shoreland zoning regulations. Please, for our present and for our future.
