Gilead
By Lin Chapman
The month of April decided to bring back a taste of winter. The “old timers” used to call a spring snow-storm like this “poor man’s fertilizer.”
My brother, Steve McLain, is home again and doing well. Many thanks to all the people who have asked and cared about him.
My nephew, Major Stephen McLain, made a trip to Italy this past week. He was supposed to return home this past weekend but the volcano that erupted caused a change in plans. Instead of flying, he was seeking an alternate route by land.
I need to include Happy Birthday wishes this week to my husband, Hugh.
Congratulations to Gilead resident, Jay Milot. He was chosen by the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce to receive the “Rocky Freda Memorial Award.” Jay and his family (wife Dianna and son, Asa) have lived on the Bog Road in Gilead for several years now.
I got an e-mail from Kelly Cole in Texas and she wanted to share some news. She said that life in Texas has been exciting with lots of stuff going on. She is pleased to announce the adoption of her son, Robert Daniel Thomas Cole, who turns 5 years old on April 21. She is adopting him through foster care and he has been in her home for the past six months. He is her parents’ first grandchild.
She is also retiring from the Air Force effective July 1 after 20 years of service to our country. There is an official ceremony taking place at her current duty station Texas A&M University on April 30. Her future plans are to stay in Texas.
Congratulations to Kelly on the adoption of her son and the completion of 20 years in the Air Force. Also, congratulations to the grandparents, Daniel and Luella Cole.
