Chainsaw Safety will be the topic of a free session at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at the Gary Hill farm on Sawin Hill sponsored by the Western Maine Chapter of the Small Woodland Association of Maine.

Trainers from the Oxford Hills Region 11 forestry program will demonstrate safe chainsaw opera-tion for small woodland owners including Personal Protective Gear, safety features on the chain-saw and proper chain filing. The session will move to the woods for demonstration of the five rules to follow when preparing to fell a tree as well as using the bore cut, how to handle a lodged tree and directional felling. Bring a hardhat if you have one.

Signs will be posted on Route 118 near Mallard Mart beside Crooked River. The farm is located half a mile up Sawin Hill Road. No pre-registration is required and the event is free and open to anyone. Coffee and doughnuts are available at 8:30 a.m. For further information, contact Merle Ring at 674-3787 or Bill Haynes at 583-2963.
