Warren C. Smith
Warren Charles “Charlie” Smith, 61, died April 9, 2010 after a brief illness in Tavernier, Fla.
Born Aug. 6, 1948 in Rumford, Maine, he was the son of Warren G. and Grace Foster Smith of Locke Mills.
Charlie attended grammar school in Locke Mills and graduated from Gould Academy in the Class of 1966. After high school he enlisted in the US Navy. Upon his return he worked in and operated several area garages and made his home in Milton Plantation, Maine.
Charlie moved to Florida in the late 1980s. He lived on his sailboat in the lower Florida Keys for many years while working as head of maintenance for a Key West hotel. Charlie moved to Tavernier when he purchased Islamorada Taxi. He loved driving around the tourists and telling his stories. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh and sense of humor.
Charlie leaves behind his two sons, Nicholas and Daniel Smith both of Woodstock; two brothers, Ronald and his wife Sally of Locke Mills and Harold and his wife Rhonda of Charlestown, N.H.; a niece, Koral Kimball; nephews, Eben Smith, Roger Smith, Zachery Smith and Edward Smith; also many close cousins; and friends from Maine to Florida.
A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at a later date.
