VERNON E. ELDREDGE
Vernon E. Eldredge, 83, of New Gloucester, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010 at d’Youville Pavilion. He had been at home up until the last five weeks.
He was born in Bethel on Oct. 22, 1927, the son of Earle and Doris Grover Eldredge. He attended Hallowell schools and faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Franklin. He was a member of the Maine National Guard until 1955.
He married Grace Mae LeBeau in 1948; she passed away in 1979. He married Leona Pearl Bragdon in 1985. He had been employed at the Maine Food Plant, Cushman Bakery, W. T. Grant, Conifers and had been a handyman at KFC. He loved to work, he was a good man and he took pride in his job. He enjoyed his vegetable gardens, raising animals and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Leona; a son, Vernon Jr. and his wife Janet of Cedar City, Utah; a daughter, Barbara J. Farwell and her husband,James,of New Gloucester; five stepchildren, Linda Bowie of New Gloucester, Diane Plummer and her husband John of New Gloucester, Jeannie Babbin of New Gloucester, Susan Peterson and her husband Michael of Auburn and Grace Bragdon of New Gloucester; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; brother, Earle, of Manchester; two sisters, Phyllis Ricchio of Portland and Shirley Roberts of Alaska. He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Harry, who died in a POW camp in Korea.
At Mr. Eldredge's request, there will be no services. Interment will be at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland. Donations in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Menphis. TN 38148-0142.
