Sigmund J. Sysko

Sigmund J. Sysko of Lewiston, Maine died on Monday, August 16. He was the oldest of three children of James and Victoria Sysko, born May 18, 1920 in Bellows Falls, Vermont. He graduated from Bellows Falls High School as valedictorian in 1938. He attended the University of Vermont, graduating with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in the class of 1942.

Upon graduation he joined the Philco Corporation in Philadelphia, Pa. and worked in its World War II APS-15 Radar Engineering Laboratory. After the war he remained at Philco and participated in various engineering programs including mobile telephone, monochrome and color television and reliability studies of all types of components. A major part of his work involved the study and overview of the safety aspects of all consumer electronic products manufactured by the corporation and their compliance with the safety regulations of the Underwriters Laboratories.

On April 28, 1945 he married Eunice Watts in Germantown, Pa. Eunice, whom he met in his undergraduate days at the University, died in 1998. He is survived by his four children, James Sysko of Newry. Maine and his partner Patrice Thibodeau, Mary Ellen Cramer and her husband Richard of Stroudsburg, PA, John Sysko and his wife Helen of Pittsburgh, PA and David Sysko and his wife Holly of Lewiston, Maine. Eunice and he were proud grandparents of nine children. As of his passing, Sigmund was the happy great grandfather of four, with one more on the way.

Sigmund is fondly remembered by his special friend, Connie Bernier, with whom he enjoyed many card games, needed errands and fun travel excursions.
