Toivo L. Komulainen
Toivo L. Komulainen passed away on Nov. 14, 2010. He was the son of Kalle and Anni Komulainen of West Paris.
Toivo was born on Nov. 23, 1924, and attended schools in West Paris, graduating high school in 1944.
Toivo proudly served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II. After his discharge from the service, he continued his education attending the Kansas City School of Watch Making, Jewelry Repair, and Hand Engraving.
After completing his training, Toivo returned to Portland and worked for Don Hibbits Jewelry Store. Toivo later moved to New Jersey to further his training by learning the art of diamond cutting. Toivo then opened up a full- service jewelry store in Ramsey, N.J.
Toivo met and married Doris Jacks in 1955, and fathered three children, Wayne, Doreen and Craig. After 16 years, Toivo returned back to Maine and opened up "Toivo & Doris Jewelers" in South Portland next to Uncle Andy's Bakery.
In 1975, due to health issues, Toivo moved his family and business to Phoenix, Ariz. Toivo remained there until 1984 and returned to his real "home in Maine" for retirement.
Services will be private in West Paris.
