The Neighborhood Watch program for the Hanover area will resume meetings on Tuesday, June 6, at 6 p.m. at the Hanover Town Office.

After several years of relative inactivity the committee feels it is time to get caught up on things. State Trooper James Nolan will be there and hopefully area residents will come in also. There might even be some cookies!

Region 9 School of Applied Technology in Mexico has announced the scholarship awards for the Hanover Area Community Fund Scholarship. This year two awards were presented to senior students who have made outstanding efforts during the year. Erica Dyer of Andover Road in Rumford has been granted a $400 scholarship. Erica participated in the Certified Nurses Aid Program at Region 9. Also receiving a $400 scholarship is Aaron Arsenault from Hanover. He has been awarded the scholarship because of his participation in the Wood Harvesting Program at Region 9. Aaron, a Mountain Valley High School student, was outstanding on the football team. The Hanover area Community Fund Scholarship was derived from funds from the sale of the Knights of Pythias hall in Hanover.

The Hanover Planning Board will meet on Wednesday, June 7, at the Town Office. At their meeting on May 24, the board approved a new house on Howard Avenue. Code Enforcement Officer John Gauthier has been working on several shoreland zone violations around Howard Pond. One involved cutting trees within the 100-foot restricted area from the shore and the other involves a property owner who may have moved rocks from below the high water mark.

Officials from the Department of Environmental Protection are expected to also investigate.

More of the summer folks have arrived back in Hanover, including Warren and Marcia Stearns, John and Louise Morton, Bruce and Viola Schneider, and John and Marjorie Hannawalt.

The warm Memorial Day weekend brought out lots of folks. Some were yard sale-ing, attending memorial services, fishing, planting gardens, target practicing, and even swimming. It was a good start to the summer season.

Sympathy is extended to the family of David Daye. David passed away last week and there was a memorial service in Bethel on Saturday.

The crows of Baby Brook Lane hatched their eggs and they are busy feeding the babies.
