A large crowd attended the Living Nativity on the Bethel Common on Sunday, Dec. 19. It was cold but clear weather with an almost-full moon shining directly over the stable. The Living Nativity was first performed on the Bethel Common in December 1963. The last performance I attended before this week was in the late 1960s. This performance was much more joyful than the ones I remember from my childhood. A live choir sang from the bandstand. The live animals (goats and a donkey) and local actors put on a memorable performance. If you missed this performance, definitely put this on your holiday calendar for next year.
While you are preparing your holiday meals, you can help the children at Crescent Park School by saving Campbells Labels and Box Tops for Education. The labels and box tops appear on a wide variety of products. They help schools supplement their budgets by aiding in the purchase of educational equipment. Coupons and box tops can be dropped off in the collection can at the Bethel Foodliner. If you live outside SAD 44, you can still help by mailing labels and box tops to Crescent Park School, Bethel, ME 04217.

The events are free, but donations will be accepted.
The Bethel Library will be closed for the holidays on Dec. 24 and 25 and Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2011.
