Weight Watchers is starting a group in Bethel. The first meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 5 p.m. at Jade’s Salon on Route 2. For more information, call Ginny Gamble at 824-7340. If you are interested, call as soon as possible. The group needs at least 15 members.
The West Parish Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, on Broad Street now has two services each weekend. The Sunday service is at 10 a.m. There is also a 4 p.m. service on Saturday. The service is family-oriented and open to all ages, with music, readings, stories, and prayer. People are welcome to come right from the slopes wearing ski attire. Please use the Chapel entrance.
If you are an intermediate or experienced hiker or skier, Mt. Abram Skiway offers a guided Full Moon hike to the peak of Mt. Abram to view the full moon and night sky. It’s approximately a 2½-hour hike to the top and back. Hikers can come down the mountain on foot or skis. The dates for the Full Moon hike are Jan. 22, Feb. 19, and March 19. Hikers meet on the deck at 5:45 p.m. and the group leaves at 6 sharp. There is live music at the Loose Boots Lounge on returning to the base. The hike is free. On Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. the Rotary Club of Bethel will host an All-You-Can-Eat pizza night at the Matterhorn on Sunday River Road in Newry. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased in advance from any Rotary Club member or purchased at the door. The proceeds benefit the Rotary’s Scholarship fund, which is given in honor of Rocky Freda.
Florence Morgan celebrated her eighty-second birthday on Saturday, Jan. 8, with a family party at her home. Guests included Robert and Peggy Morgan, Susan Maila, Terry and Frank Petillo and Allie, Kim Harrington and family, Ashley, Andrew, and Emalee, and Nicky Petillo and Zowie and Bella.
