Last Sunday was a beautiful day. The rain let up and we had a chance to get out to do some projects. One of them was to go to Mountain Greenery and pick up some fall mums.
My brother, Steve McLain, stopped by the house Saturday and dropped off my Blue Ribbon from the AHAME Autumnfest Horse Show in Skowhegan.
Yes, I won a Blue Ribbon at the Horse Show in Skowhegan last weekend. I don’t have a horse but my nephew, Brad McLain, and his wife, Carole Mason, have one. They entered my sour pickles in the Pickle Throwdown and the pickles received a blue ribbon. The judge loves sour pickles and these are sour.
Mary Tyler still has some hummingbirds hanging around her fall flowers. We have seen some here, also. We still have our feeder out, but they visit the phlox quite a lot.
Lise McLain attended the Senior Club meeting at the Funky Red Barn last week. She also had a chance to visit with Canadian cousins at her brother, Andre Dupont’s house in Gorham, N.H. They all went out to dinner at a restaurant.
It was a very busy week last week! I attended the two day election conference at Sunday River on Tuesday and Wednesday all day long. Town Clerks and Registrars are required to complete training every two years. I worked in the town office on Tuesday evening and there was a selectmen’s meeting on Wednesday night. On Thursday, I worked at the SAD 44 Adult Education Office most of the day. The rest of the time was spent getting ready for the Gilead Historical Society’s Annual Meeting this Saturday, Sept. 21. When I retired this past spring, someone asked if I’d have enough things to keep me busy. When they ask me now, I just tell them that I have not had time to find out yet! When did I ever have time to work!

The Annual Meeting is this Saturday, Sept. 21. There will be a pot luck lunch at 1 p.m. at the Town Hall. The business meeting will follow. Members of the public are invited to attend the lunch and are welcome to stay for the meeting if they wish. We hope to have a good turnout. Just bring a food item to share. We will be discussing what we will be doing at the annual event in June next year, since it will be our 10th Anniversary.
