The holidays have come and gone and a new year has arrived. We will all have to get used to writing 2011 now.
My brother, Steve McLain, was at the house last Saturday. He had his little black dog, Laney, with him. She was happy to find a gray squirrel that she could chase off the porch when she went out.
After being on a waiting list since the November election, this past Friday, Lise McLain finally received a ticket to attend the LePage inauguration plus a ticket to attend the LePage ceremony scheduled for Jan. 5, 2011, and Lise has accepted the invitations and will be attending.
Mary Dunn from Andover stopped by this past week while she was out running errands in Bethel. She always remembers us at Christmas time with her homemade treasures.
Caro Poirier was also at the house last week and dropped off a special gift for us that she created. We will treasure this gift and the story of how and why she decided to present it to us.
Happy Birthday to Hugh’s sister, Mary Lou Berry, on Jan. 6.
Hugh and I were quite busy this past weekend. On Saturday night, we joined Tim and Michele and the grandchildren, William, Annie, Ajay and Sidney, for dinner at the Yokohama in Gorham, N.H. Michele’s parents, Leo and Ann Croteau, were there and a few other members of their family.
On Sunday, Hugh and I met Elena and Jon Martin at Rooster's Roadhouse in Bethel for lunch. Our grandson, Ben Chapman, and Jon’s son, Greg Martin, were also there. This is the first time we had been there for lunch and really enjoyed it.
I have had some trouble with my hotmail account this past weekend, but hopefully, they will have it corrected soon.
Remember to license your dog in January. A late fee of $25 per dog will be charged after Jan. 31. The Town Clerk is available on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7.
The town books closed on Dec. 31. The Selectmen will begin working on next year’s budget soon.

There have been a couple of responses to purchasing quilt squares, but there are still more to be sold.
