The Upton Ladies Aid Association has tickets available for this year's quilt raffle. Ask any Ladies Aid member or call Charlotte at (207) 533-2061 to purchase tickets. The quilt is purple, combined with shades of blue and teal to produce a quilt that is pleasing to the Ladies. The Ladies will meet every Tuesday and every second Wednesday to ensure a timely completion of the quilt.
The Annual Belisle Charity Yard Sale held at the Upton House earned in excess of $900 for the Religious of Jesus and Mary Haiti Missions. Carol Norman and Leslie Aron of Upton Ladies Aid prepared breakfast muffins and sandwiches for "Breakfast on the Porch." They raised and donated $167.00 to the charity. Keona Bouchard sold some her possessions and contributed $42.00 to the mission.
This year's contribution is the largest that the Charity Yard Sale has raised and donated. It exceeded last year's donation by $200.00. The money will be very useful to the people of Haiti who are truly "the poorest of the poor.” Upton House joins the Sisters of the Religious of Jesus and Mary in thanking the contributors and donors who are responsible for providing the many treasures that help make this a success. They also wish to thank all the wonderful people who purchased items and enabled the Upton House to send money to their charity.
An Upton couple, who are members of the Upton Historical Society, traveled to the school building Sunday, July 21, to participate in the society's July meeting. They felt that the meeting was poorly attended as they were the only people there. After waiting a while and discussing the situation, they concluded that they were a week early. So, for those who need to know; the Upton Historical Society will meet Sunday, July 28, 3 p.m. at the school building.
Please remember that because of the New England Forest Rally Race, North Road and Red Ridge Road in Grafton will be closed to all traffic Saturday, July 27, 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The Planning board will meet Friday, July 26 at the town office. They will have a workshop starting at 6:30 p.m. and will review building applications beginning at 7 p.m.
Upton was off the grid for about 27 hours this past weekend. A storm went through Cambridge N.H. close to the Umbagog boat landing Friday evening, approximately 8:45. About a half mile of route 26 looked like a war zone. The power company crews had everything repaired and electricity restored just about midnight, Saturday night.
