The Forest Lodge tour, offered by the Upton Historical Society, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7. This a great opportunity to visit the historic homes of author Louise Dickinson Rich. The tour includes a ride to the site, a brief tour of Middle Dam, guided tours of the "Winter House" and the "Summer House," a wonderful lunch prepared by the Upton Ladies Aid Association and a ride back to the Upton School. The vans leave Upton at 8 a.m. and return sometime after 4 p.m. To purchase tickets, or for more information please call Charlotte 207-533-2061.
Nine members of the Letter B Notch Riders worked on ATV trails Sunday. They cut brush, smoothed trails and put up signs on the Silver Stream trail. They will hold their September meeting Sunday, Sept. 8, 9 a.m. at the Upton House. One of the items on the agenda is to discuss if, where and when they will have a fall club ride and cookout.
The Upton Selectmen are scheduled to meet Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the town office.
There is a camp in Upton with a sign “WHUNSUN” attached to it. The sign has been there for several years. I thought that the sign was an intentional misspelling of “one son,” assuming the owners had one son. However, when I met the owner during Upton Fun Day, he told me that it is an acronym for, "what happens up north, stays up north." I had a good laugh about that and a nice conversation with him.
