The Ladies Aid Association is planning some fall activities -- such as a Hunter's breakfast on Nov. 6 and a Hunter's supper on Nov. 20.
Members would like to be able to offer Sunday breakfasts again this year. However, membership is low and in order to accomplish this service help will be needed from community volunteers -- to cook, to take orders and serve breakfasts. If you can help, please contact Carol Norman at firstname.lastname@example.org or Laurie Brown at email@example.com or by calling 533-2111.
The Ladies Aid is also planning to publish an update on the last Upton cookbook which was published in 1992. They would like stories and/or pictures depicting some differences in recipes, cooking techniques and appliances between "back in the day" and modern kitchens and cooking. Of course your recipes are wanted as well -- new and/or old. Members are still working on an Upton phone book.
Leslie Aron told her daughter, Judy, that she wanted to celebrate her birthday on Sept. 1, by walking the beach in Wells. To Leslie's total delight, Judy flew up from Kentucky and, together with Andy, shared Leslie's birthday wish with her, spent the night, and flew home the next day. Sentimental, happy tears were filling the corners of Leslie's eyes as she told me about it two weeks later.
The Swingin' Bears Square Dance club has classes on Wednesday nights (starting Sept. 15) at the middle school in South Paris. It's great fun and exercise. Although the calls and sometimes the music is different than it was when I danced as a kid, "when you dance in a square, you join a circle of friends" is still a true statement! Feel free to call me for more info.
Nancy Thew, 137 Thistle Street, is looking for both pint and quart canning jars. Please call her at 533-2051 or drop them off at her home if you have some you don't need.
Although I like winter, we are never ready for it. While enjoying the beautiful colors that autumn brings, there is always the urgency to "get stuff done." Every summer I think (and hope) "This is the year we're going to be ready for winter." Ah, well, maybe next year!
Hope you enjoy your week. Selah
