Upton July 22
There will be two brothers in the parade on Aug. 21 that have the distinguished position of being the oldest two people who were born in the town of Upton! That's kool! Folks in neighboring towns, folks with ties to Upton but no longer abide here are talking about entering a float! The theme is "Life in Upton 150 years ago.” There will be tee shirts, totes and possibly other items for sale that publicize the town and the event.
Jim Rector, with a group of friends, climbed Mt. Whitney in California. Mt. Whitney is the highest peak in the lower 48, with a peak of 14,500-plus feet. On his climb he saw beautiful flowers that grow out of rocks and are seen only in elevations of around 13,000 feet. Sky pilots, which are a blue/purple flower were among Jim's favorite. The climbers experienced periods of windstorms and low visibility on the trip, but when they reached the peak, the weather had cleared, giving them a fantastic view. I believe he took many pictures on his hike. He's home and none the worse for wear.
While Jim was climbing mountains, Wilma was sky diving at Sky dive New England in Lebanon, Maine. While attached (tightly) to a professional, she jumped at 14,000 feet, free-falling to 9,000 feet when she opened the shute. Wilma regards it as an exciting, wonderful experience!
