Upton July 29

As I write this column on Monday, we're experiencing fall-like weather! Go figure, eh? Forecast for tomorrow is back in the nineties.

Bonnie Sweatt was the guest of honor at her 80th birthday party on July 24 at her son, John Sweatt's camp in Upton. There were about 30-40 folks gathered from all over New England to help her celebrate. The weather and the food were wonderful.

The ditching on Mill Hill has been done. Brush cutting on East B will be starting soon, and Pete Eames will be grading town roads as soon as he can get here.

Arthur Bernier of Cannan, Vt., visited his two aunts last week. Nicholas Bernier and his girlfriend, Sophia Miller, of St. Johnsbury, Vt., visited with relatives over the weekend.

Since resigning from her teaching position in June, Charlotte Dominique has established Upton as her residency. This writer is one among many that has expressed what a wonderful addition to town she is. Welcome, Charlotte. She and Bob Pepler are aiming for an official opening date of the first of August of The Upton House, formerly the Douglass House, as a beautiful Bed and Continental Breakfast. They will have an Open House on Aug. 21 from 1:30 to 2:30 – a treat you won't want to miss!

Nancy Thew has an ongoing yard sale every Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Aug. 7 and Aug. 21) at her home on Thistle Street.

Plans for the sesquicentennial celebration on Aug. 21 are going full steam ahead! Join the fun and work!

Have a wonderful week. Selah
